Check out Little Green Notebook for beautiful things and beautiful spaces.
If you ever doubt that people are good – check out what happens when you put the right labels on electronics and leave them around… people return them!! In fact, 75% of the time! That’s the data behind StuffBak, a service which lands squarely in the category of SIBAYST (Stuff I Buy And You Should Too). Here’s how it works: you buy labels – which have an 800-number and URL on them – and stick ‘em on your stuff. If someone finds your stuff, they call the number or go online and the StuffBak people have it shipped back to you – and give a reward to the finder. You can either set the reward yourself or if you don’t want to pay anything, they will provide Stuffbak labels to the finder. You only pay if someone finds your stuff and it gets shipped back to you. I have these labels on my cameras, my keys, my luggage, etc. (no, I’m not getting anything for hawking them…)
The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs is probably only funny to those of us deep in the software/internetty/geek world. But, face it – we don’t have much in terms of social skills, so we need funny.

It’s not exactly updated frequently, but I am absolutely in love with this blog, written by a couple of old broads: Margaret and Helen. If you are a die-hard conservative, I suggest not reading it… it might will totally piss you off.
Do you ever wish there was a simple list somewhere that identifies the critical things you should have seen on the Internet by now? Call it Internet Cultural Literacy 101. I meant, really, do you want to be the ONLY ONE on the planet who hasn’t seen the Laughing Baby? Or the Evolution of Dance? Well, Greg Rutter has done just that – in fact, twice. Behold: You Should Have Seen This and You Should Have Also Seen This.
In the category of “lifestyle” blogs that provide general inspiration, I love Petit Elefant. Allison Czarnecki is clever, has impeccable taste, and seems like the kind of girl who would be really fun to hang out with. I wish I could ask her out on a friend date, if that was possible without extreme weirdness, which it’s not.

- I thought I was soooo clever when I came up with: “I was a much better parent before I had a kid“. Or at least I thought I came up with it. Turns out that once again I was just spouting something unoriginal. Check out the two mamas who may not have said it first, but certainly seem to own it now: I Was A Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids. They are, in fact, very clever indeed. Although they also wrote a book called “I’d Trade My Husband For A Housekeeper“, which makes me just feel sorry for them, ’cause I have a housekeeper. And if I added a husband to the mix, I sure as hell wouldn’t give up the housekeeper. What were they thinking?
- Here’s another site that I will do a crappy job describing, so you should just go check it out: If Charlie Parker Was A Gunslinger, There’s Be A Whole Lotta Dead Copycats. Best I can say is it is full of “observations”, mostly visual, but some not so, that are just… cool. And smart. And interesting. I especially love the category of Relevant Quotes.
- Another great site for ideas/inspiration for what to feed your anklebiter: Foodie Tots.
Here are my Friday shout-outs:
- Do you, like me, love Glee? Seriously, when has a TV show come along that has engendered so much crazy fandom across every possible slice of the American demographic? I can’t even think of a comparison. Now that the show is on hiatus, I can find no good reason to watch TV (other than the delicious Seeley Booth on Bones, of course). But, while I wait impatiently for the return of Glee, I can keep myself entertained with Gleehab, The Gleekdom. and (my fav) What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear?
- Amalah is one of a maybe a frillion mommy-bloggers I’ve checked out. For some reason, I get bored with most, but I just keep coming back to her. She is clever, funny, self-deprecating, and real.
- So, y’all know I’m a lawyer, right? I work in high tech, so I can get away with dressing down most of the time. But sometimes I need to dress the part – and that is sometimes a challenge. I am so grateful for Corporette. Awesome (daily!) advice for professional women on how to dress, where to shop, how to put yourself together, and alerts to the occasional screaming deal on work appropriate clothes. If you are a banker, lawyer, or need to dress like one, this site is inspirational and practical at the same time.

- Bacon Haikus. That’s right. There is an entire website dedicated to haiku poems written about bacon. God I love the Internet.
- If you knew me, you’d know that my glasses case is bright orange. So is the cover to my crackberry. If they made moleskine notebooks in orange, I’d buy a metric ton. I don’t think I’d decorate my house in orange, but lately I’ve been on a run. How About Orange is a design blog written by Jessica Jones – plenty to oooh and aaaah over here. Neat-o things to do or make or buy. Occasional posts about all things orange.
- Another Twitter feed (sorry, Q!): FakeAPStyleBook (also available on Facebook, but riddled with less-clever comments). Frickin’ hilarious. Especially for professional or amateur writers, or anyone else who is wordalicious. It’s actually a subset of the also-entertaining website The Bureau Chiefs.

- Feeding a toddler can be a drag. It’s hard to think of new things to feed them, and it’s easy to rely on a few standbys which quickly (in Elsa’s case) act to narrow the range of acceptable foods. Toddler Café is a good resource for ideas and recipes and inspiration – written very much with a small person’s dietary needs (and palate) in mind.
- In the emerging category of Stuff I Buy And You Should Too (SIBAYST): I am fanatical about everything I get from Nancy Boy. Their night cream is the one beauty/skin care thing that I will not leave behind if my house is on fire. (Long-time readers might recall my raves on this post…) And, I’ve been washing my clothes using their Lavender/Geranium laundry soap for a long time now (again, a bit of a rehash) and I can’t imagine living without it. My clothes and sheets and towels smell positively dreamy.
- OK, so it’s actually a twitter feed, not a website, which I know will leave some of you (Q) shaking your heads and wondering what the hell you are supposed to do with it. But really, Shit My Dad Says is one of the funniest things ever. Also available on Facebook here.

I’m sure it’s not new to most of you, but Awkward Family Photos is horrible yet compelling in a train-wreck kind of way, and I can’t quit it.
Rookie Moms is full of practical advice for new moms – like what the hell to do with a new baby (and yourself) all day. I love that it includes activities to do with your anklebiter… things that may seems simple or obvious now, but lemme tell you, when you are sleep-deprived and isolated at home, you would pay big money for ideas like this. Or I would have.
Finally, if you are a wine freak (like me) and have impulse control problems (also like me) and are prone to retail therapy (um… like me), you should probably NOT check out Wines Til Sold Out. I’m just saying.
In my now-world-famous series of Friday posts pointing you to f’ing fantastic stuff I have come across on the Interwebs, please enjoy the following, and let me know what you think:
1. There are some real gems to be found over at Passive-Aggressive Notes. People are funny, especially when they are not trying to be.
2. I have a mini-crush on Ian over at Single Parent Dad. He’s (obv.) a single father, raising his son Max after the death of his wife when Max was a baby. He is funny and clever and charmingly self-deprecating and – well – British. And you know how I get weak in the knees for British men. And South Africans.
3. I love looking at photos of real people – especially cool, sharp-dressed, groovy and/or otherwise inspirational people. I mean – check out this guy (from a recent post by The Sartorialist) – he’s not a model, he doesn’t have a stylist, he’s just hanging out in the street looking like that.
Sheesh. (OK, he’s in Florence, so he’s probably Italian and has innate style.)
Granted, these two sites sometimes make me feel (A) I must move to London or Milan immediately; and/or (B) there is no hope for dowdy old jeans-wearin’ me, but it’s all real-life eye candy, and it’s fun: The Sartorialist and Street Style/pics by polka dot.
Here’s another one of my Friday posts pointing you to f’ing fantastic stuff I have come across on the Interwebs:
Thursday Night Smackdown may very well be my very favoritest blog in the world at the mo. Food, photography, snarkiness. Clever writing, a liberal hand with the profanity. What’s not to love? [note - Michelle, who writes this blog, is on hiatus this week, with some pretty killer guest bloggers. So check it out anyway - but be sure to read back a week or two for the full flavor!]
If I win the lottery and get to hire a personal stylist for my life, I want it to be Jordan Ferney. (And apparently my peep CKD is a fan, too!)
I don’t quite know what to make of 27b/6 – or, really, any other site that greets you with a lovely lass flipping you the bird, along with “Go away – this site contains none of your business and is for my amusement only“. But I have to say, this post made me wet myself just a little bit and so did this one, and I’m now a fan.
In the continuing series (two makes a series, right?) of Friday posts pointing you to f’ing fantastic stuff I have stumbled upon on the Interwebs, I hereby direct you – beseech you, really - to check out the following (I’m giving you two today):
The mission statement over at Photojojo pretty much sums it up better than I ever could: “We find the best photo shiz anywhere“.
I have a serious jones for stationary – particularly the letterpress variety. Not just stationary, actually – anything in the fine papers category. So, Paper Crave used to be very very dangerous for me. But after being fiscally irresponsible on things like Girls Spa Day and too many dinners out, fine papers are no longer in the budget, I’m afraid. So it’s a kind of sweet misery to have this site on my feed list – look but don’t touch, or buy. Since misery loves company, I thought I’d share it with you.
