“Gifted children have emotional as well as cognitive needs that vary from the norm. They are more intense, sensitive, perfectionistic, easily frustrated, questioning of authority, and reactive to criticism than their average peers.”

This describes my son to a T as well and he is not ADHD nor do I think he is gifted. He was disorthographic for the first two years in elementary school (couldn't transform phonemes into graphemes), but a good language therapist helped him tremendously. Italian is easy to learn compared to English or French, but still Abe arrived in Italy at 3 1/2 years with an Ethiopian dialect and Amharic under his belt...he is excelling in school... I wouldn't worry about homework.... but that perfectionist part sometimes gets in the way of getting homework done....

Great for Elsa and great for you...so glad there is so much improvement! Enjoy her ... Abe turns 10 soon and that pre-tween thing I hear so much about is rearing it's unnerving head.

Very good points, R... I am terrified of homework!
She is very happy where she is now. I am challenged by how far away the school is from home. I am certainly considering keeping her there. The teachers are wonderful and the community seems tight. I feel out of it because I'm working full time and so can't really connect with the other moms. But that's a different problem. :-)
